finding Vietnam Records

I am trying to find my Dads old Military records from Vietnam, He served in the 101st Airborne division during 70-72. My dad passed away back in 2009 and while going through his things I found a few medals and awards that he had been given, Dad never really spoke much about his time over there and we never really asked, all I can get from the archives is a DD214 that is listed when he was in the reserves. I would really like to maybe get in touch with anyone who might have served with him or that can give me any tips on how to find out how he was awarded the medals. Thanks

You can start your research by getting in contact wtih the VFW, also check with your local Vet Rep at the County Courthouse to see if they can be of any help, also check with the VA Hospital to see if he has a medical file and if it is obtainable. The VA medical file will be filled with info, especially if he ever filed a claim for PTSD or any other medical condition. Other places to search would be online, I think the 101st has a website, you will find a lotta people there, some of them may have known him personally. The Screaming Eagles were a close knit group of elite airborne soldiers, some of the best. Our company airlifted many of them into and out of combat LZ's many times. Somebody out there knew him, you will just have to search for them. Hope this helps.

This should get you started in the right direction. I just did this a year ago for my grand father and I received the awards in a few months.
