I just signed up on here today looking for an answer. I am putting my ASU together, and am going to get the full-size medals as well as my ribbon rack together. I have looked through a dozen regulations and talked with NCOs on three continents asking the same question: what do I put on the full-size medals, and how? Ive seen Marine medal racks with the appurtenances centered on the suspension ribbon and I've seen other racks with the appurtenances on the mounting bar. In all my searching, I have gotten nowhere. I've stumped a few senior noncoms and a couple ancient warrant officers with this question.

I don't have a big ribbon rack (two rows, four medals), but I want to put this together right the first time. One or two of my medals have extra stuff on them, and I've been told I'm getting an OLC for my AAM. Anyone out there know what I'm talking about?

I wouldn't even worry about getting medals. The only time you wear medals is if you are at a very formal ball.
