My name is Jeni Johnston, and I am military mom to a deployed soldier in Iraq.
Additionally, I am a site administrator at AAUSS, and I wanted to share in this forum that at the present time we have an overabundance of supporters patiently waiting to adopt a US Soldier.
The program is completely free, and adopting a soldier is easy to do, won't take up much of your time, and there is no financial obligation other than the price of a postage stamp. You don't need to feel obligated to send gifts or packages, although they would be greatly appreciated by your soldier, A simple letter every week or two, means the entire world to our troops.
Back to the easy part: You register, receive your assigned soldiers name (1-3 day process), mailing address and email address (if provided by the soldier at time of registration), and determine your level of support.
What we need are for the deployed soldiers to SIGN UP to receive their supporters; We assign several, especially soldiers in the most remote locations and/ the greatest needs).
So, If you are a deployed soldier, or know of one in need, please have them register, or do so on their behalf at: http://www.adoptaussoldier.org/index.php/site/adoptme_new/
If you are a service veteran, family member or individual who likes to motivate/encourage and brighten the day for the men and women of the Armed Forces, Please take a moment to register to adopt a soldier here: http://www.adoptaussoldier.org/index.php Just click on the "Adopt A Soldier" tab to get started:
Many of you are aware that BX/PX and other base services are beginning to close their doors without regard to how many troops are still in place. In this sense, care package items may be requested in a soldiers profile and you are under no obligation to supply any/all items listed. The degree to which you adopt a US soldier is entirely yours to make, but above else, the cards and letters are the most treasured.
Adopt A US Soldier is a not-for-profit group founded by Ann Johnson and staffed entirely by a core group of volunteers. Dedicated to providing our deployed troops with the support that they need, AAUSS matches volunteers, just like you, with soldiers deployed across the globe. In just a few short years AAUSS has grown to nearly 500,000 volunteers from over 100 countries all dedicated to supporting our troops.
Here you will find the history of AAUSS and answers to many of the frequently asked questions, as well as general information.
Should you wish to receive further information on adopting and supporting a US Soldier, please direct your inquiries to: jeni.johnston@adoptaussoldier.org and I would be more than happy to address your questions, comments or concerns.
Thank you kindly in advance for your consideration, and taking the next steps to get involved, or pay it forward~
