| | Its pretty hard to get out of your national guard contract to go active duty. Now there is a progrom in the national guard called "active first". If im not mistaking, you do 1 year active duty and if you dont like it you can go guard or stay active.

| | Jesus - Jonathan is close. There is a program called Active First, but it has been suspended till further notice. Given the operations tempo of the National Guard (means being deplyed so frequently), it is difficult for a Soldier to recieve a conditional release to join the Active branch. However, if you present yourself as a good, Soldier, one that is always squared away, who is proficient at his job and one who displays the essense of the Army Values then it is possible. 1SG and Company Commanders do not like losing people but will usually work with a good Soldier. If you join the Guard and become a "turd" then your leadership will most certainly not assist you in achieving your goal nor should they.

| | The Active First program is now active as of the 1st of September. You can go active duty for up to four years, then you decide to stay active or go guard. Do whatever suits youl

| | this is the first ive heard of the active first program but let me tell you it is not as easy for people to go back and forth as it may seem. active to guard is easy, but the other way is a bit harder. like these guys were saying in a nutshell is they all need people. to let you go when your filling a job they need is a little counter productive. if you can get the details on this program and it works great, but if not make your decisions carefully. i ran into an issue with the af. last time i checked they arent taking prior service guys...i talked to the army also and they said they can get me back in. so, maybe the army is easier to get back into i dont know. i would just think long and hard about you decision.

| | I got your solution...It worked for me. DD Form 368 Conditional Release to Active Duty. I joined the guard, found out that my unit was full of turds and also found out the unit was disbanding. So they had 210 Soldiers to find homes for.
I jumped at the opportunity, I did have to wait for about 3 to 4 mnths for it to get approved, but they finally released me. It was pretty easy only cuz the Unit was closing down. But that is the form you need and its gotta go up a long chain of command to finally get approved. It might even collect a little dust on the way up. Hope this helps.

| | In Kansas the problem is not at the company level but at the TAG level. They are hurting badly for Guardsmen and are not ready to let go. I'd do Active First or do an AD stint first. You can always come to the Guard later.
