My father was stationed at Greenham Commens AFG near Newbury, England in the mid to late sixties. I have wonderful memories of the surrounding countryside and towns. I had no idea that this base was a "nuc" base. If anybody can give me further details please do.

i work at RAF Welford, from the back end of our MSA we can see what used to be Greenham Commens. right now it's pretty much tore up. there used to be all sorts of aircraft landing there, bombers, fighters, and passenger. the runway was, at points, up to 10 meters thick. the tower was rebuilt right before it closed. the US would have liked to keep it open, but the brits had other ideas. that's all i really know about it, not many people around anymore that know much about it's past. we have a museum on RAF Welford that has a lot of information on it. If you're ever in england, you should check it out.
