Using APO for online credit card fraud on 09/23/2009 03:18 pm
I work for a laptop manufacturer that sells quit a few laptops to military personal. We have always enjoyed a fantastic relationship with our armed forces members. However recently someone has really taken advantage of us and I need to know how to contact someone within the camp to initiate a investigation.
This person placed a order for a very costly laptop computer, tracking records show the laptop was delivered on August 15th. Three weeks later they contacted their credit card company to say the laptop was lost and so they want to charge it back. They never called us to track the package or say it was lost. They just charged the full amount back. Of course it could be that someone else ended up with the laptop and this person is telling the truth. The way they handled the event suggests that perhaps they are trying to get their cake and eat it too. I think they have the laptop since it shows as being delivered and then are using the fact that they are in the Military to make it difficult to track them down and pursue this. The credit card company does not know either. They just here it was not received and they give the money back. We show it was received.
My questions is, how do I go about contacting someone in charge of received postal items to start the verification process. They are at Camp Mike Spann. Does anybody have a initial email or phone number that I could use for starting the process?
This is only the second time this has happened and the first time the military handled it on their own and a Major went to prison. In 15 years with only two incidents we feel the highest level of respect for military members. However, if something like this were to continue it would make it hard for any companies to want to take the risk of shipping to APO address. Please help maintain a healthy and fraud free environment so all future transactions are guaranteed for you folk standing in harm's way. I know from the bottom of my heart, the rest of you feel repulsed the possibility someone in the uniform could do such a thing. Your help is appreciated.
Thank you for your time

I used to work for the Military Postal Service,if you did not send that laptop with any other service ie,delivery or signature confirmatiom, there basicly nothing you can do,but if you did you can go down to your local post office and get them to track it then you will know and can take legal action,if not guess you learnt a valuable lesson.

Perhaps if you could track down the service members unit...verify that he is with them...then get contact information for the Unit Commander via the rear detachment here in the States and have him run an investigation ie; physically see the laptop.....Then the Commander can handle things for you and get you your money.
