| | YOUR LIFE MUST REALLY FUCKING SUCK TO CLAIM TO HAVE BEEN IN THE SERVICE.
RESPECT TO MY BROTHERS WHO HAVE SERVED
|
|
| | I would imagine that the creaters of this site have a method in place to catch all of the wannabes out there who falsely claim awards and such. I imagine it would be kinda hard to catch every little one. It would be kinda obvious that there are people out there who just don't understand the meaning of the awards and decorations and are going to just put it up because they can. And if someone does fake an award you would think they might be smart enough to NOT fake something like a M.O.H. That is just to obvious and I am sure they will be caught, deleted and prosecuted for their crimes
|
|
| | Yes it would be for private review. You also have to understand that we will have people from different countries posing as well and they have zero respect. I am just looking for ideas, to help prevent this without showing disrespect to those that have rightfully received these awards.

|
| | Dennis. I hate to make your workload greater, but I think that the final arbiter of what's posted has to be you. Those of us who are concerned, as I am, about what medals/ranks and honors are posted here should continue to report issues to you, but you are the one who has to contact these folks, and remove them if they continue.
Can't think of any other way, unfortunately.

|
| | Yea I know that, but I'm just using you guys to help brain storm on the idea to help me come up with tools to help prevent this. Thats all.

|
| | Here is an excellent website about this subject. You can access list of names of current posers. It also has contact information that maybe this site can use if it has someone we suspect of Stolen Valor. Email me also as I have a lot of contacts in Army S-1 and VA that can help also. If anyone has any questions please contact me. Here is my army email. lawrence.jefferson@us.army.mil

I worked as a Reserve Detention Deputy at our local Sheriff's office before my last deployment and you would be amazed at how many ex-Special Forces and Navy Seals there running around our town; disgusting.

| | What's worse in when people do this in real life. I yanked a ribbon rack off one of my BRAND NEW Privates during a Class A inspection. There is NO WAY he is two months out of AIT and has 5 medals. He was wearing the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, GWOTSM, OSR (said because he was overseas. Duh, you get this EVENTUALLY), the Army of Occupation ribbon (Well, he told me, We are occupying Germany) and the GWOTEM. (He said and I quote "My drill said to put this one on, because I am serving in another country.")
Okay, I know his Drill and he DID NOT tell his soldiers to wear any of that crap. Course, this is the same kid, who somehow Forrest Gumped his way through Airborne school and insisted that he gets to wear an "Airborne" tab above any patch he ever wears. This is the new Army and I calmly showed the SM AR 670-1 and explained to him what exactly the Airborne tab was for. I'm glad I did too, now he's stopped asking to go to "Mountain" school, so he can wear the "Super sweet Mountain Tab". I don't blame the drills or the recruiters, I blame Call of Duty. Damn video games.

| | i`m a little confused with the overseas ribbon. do i put a 2 on there for two tours or is it like the arcom or aam? I believe time will eventually catch up to these guys you can only lie so much until you are caught.

| | I noticed even a guy on my friends list has claimed to have received a Korean Service Medal but if im not mistaken the last issue for that was around 1954. We served in Korea together in 2005/2006. I am proud of the metals I have and I am glad to where only what I am authorized to where.
|
|
| | Robert - I think that some of the members of the site are simply mistaken when they post their medals. Your "friend" MAY be one of those. He may be thinking "Hey I served in Korea. I should have received one of these medals" In fact, what they might have been awarded is the Korea Defense Service Medal. Sometimes things are confusing, and honest people cam make mistakes.
On the other hand - dishonest people just wear/post whatever the hell they feel like.
Sometimes it's hard to differentiate them (Of course it is fairly easy when it comes to the MOH, DSC and Four-Star ranks)

| | Well I have not paid attention to the Ribbon Rack that much but I did work with a guy after I retired from the military who clamed to have went to Nam 2 times was a tunnel rat and in the Signal Corp as a Radio Teletype Operator. I found the TT Operator part was true but serving in Nam was false as I sent for his records under the Freedom of Information Act that took me about 6 months to get but I confronted him and told him If I ever heard him tell anyone else his war storie I would stomp mud in his 4 point of contact...lol "Hawkeye" Hawkins 13 years Signal Corp and last 7 years in the Military Police Corp. email contact is

| | I noticed when adding my ribbon for Berlin Occupation it list it as WWII Occupation. I was not in WWII for shure but anyone having served in Berlin at the time of its Occupation was awarded the ribbon.
Because of the legal status of West Berlin, West Berlin was the name given to the western part of Berlin between 1949 and 1990. It consisted of the American, British, and French occupation sectors established in 1945. It was in many ways integrated with, although legally not a part of, West Germany...
, as an occupied territory until the unification of Germany, the Army of Occupation Medal was issued for forty five years making it one of the longest active military awards of both the Second World War and the Cold War.
The Cold War was the continuing state of political conflict, military tension, and economic competition existing after World War II , primarily between the USSR and its satellite states, and the powers of the Western world, including the United States...
.
In addition, some recipients of the award were born two generations after the end of the conflict which the medal was designed to represent. Much like the National Defense Service Medal.
The National Defense Service Medal is a military service medal of the United States military originally commissioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower...
, the Army of Occupation Medal has come to be considered a "multi-generational" award.

| | After reading all the posts here, too bad there isnt a way to cross reference ERBs with everyones award input on here. For us that have integrity and for those who dont. Just a thought. If that was to happen, this site would probably cut down on some of the liars who enter.
