| | My husband just transferred from the national guard to active army. I have to go on his AKO and make our wish list. He really wants Virginia, but I'm not super thrilled. Are there any suggestions any of you have as for a beautiful warm state that has stuff to offer??? Please help me!! Thank you so much!

| | California or Hawaii will be your best bet.
|
|
| | I would have to say, nice weather wise... South Carolina, North Carolina or Georgia. Just what ever you do dont pick Washington. Fort Lewis is a misrable station, its always raining and overcast and the people are rude!

|
| | California. Best moderate weather, coolest people (besides Washington), and best for activites.

| | Arizona? heh I live in Yuma. It's a big/little state. Lots of people, not too many big things to do however, we are a short drive to Phoenix and San Diego and only 10 min from Mexico...oh wait, don't go to Mexico (oink oink lol) I would think in general, Arizona would be a good state as far as the things you are looking for.
I am from Washington and can attest that the west side of the state has a lot of snobs. It has actually been talked about in the past that Washington should be made into 2 different states because of all the differences. (Basically more pop. on W. side therefore whatever statewide rules want to be passed, the W. side makes the decision). WA also has 4 seasons, which is pretty but the snow on the E. side is NOT fun in my opinion! That is why I moved from there.

| | Yeah, I hate Ohio weather as well and would rather not see snow for awhile lol.

| | Don't overlook Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Great place.

|
| | Assuming he can go:
If you are into history and politics, Virginia and Maryland are great places.
I would recommend Hawaii, but only if you like outdoor sports and hiking, also rude people and high prices not bothering you is a must.
Arizona and Texas are great if you like it hot and like the open road. Plenty of good food and close to Mexico.
My wife wants to go to Alaska next, but she has to convince of that one.

|
| | That is so funny! I want Alaska next as well but my husband is not thrilled either. However it's looking like I need to get through 2 yrs in Korea first! Maybe by then Alaska will look great to my husband! lol

|
| | I agree---when it comes to weather Ohio is not the best. If I were you I'd head to California or Arizona.

| | It's been awhile, but as I remember Virginia isn't exactly loving to the military. If You want ABSOLUTE BEAUTY, I would suggest Washing State, or any where in the area, Alaska is cold but beautiful. Also New York is a very beautiful state. Being completely absorbed with beauty each and everyday is worth the cost of living!

| | WARNING!!!! do NOT try to get stationed at ft irwin, ca. it will be the biggest mistake of your life. You wil regret it. just a warning

|
| | Virginia is a great state to live in. We have alot of great bases and the people there are very loving to the military. Most of the people in virginia ARE military in one way or another.

| | Not sure how warm you're wanting it, but Washington state is very temperate and I love Ft. Lewis. It does rain a fair bit, but invest in a decent umbrella and you'll be fine. It really doesn't rain nearly as much as people think it does, but it's a big shock if you're coming from somewhere like the desert where it NEVER rains. Boyfriend was stationed at Lewis right before he ETS'd from Active to go Guard and he's taken me up there several times. You're right near the major hub of Seattle, the ocean, you can live in Tacoma or Lakewood or anywhere else around the Lewis area and it's just beautiful. Just tell him to drive in VERY early for PT because it's a major lock-up trying to get on base at PT time.
