MR & MRS SMITH - ARMY STYLE:
Chief Warrant Officer 3 Edward Smith, C Company 1-10 Attack Battalion is My New American Hero. I am in awe of CWO3 Smith as he is an Apache Longbrow Pilot. WOW! Imagine this man from West Virginia who now soars across the skies of Iraq searching for any sign of trouble and "taking care of business". CWO3 Smith is currently stationed in FOB Diamondback. With Great Pride and Honor, Ed recently packed his bags for the second time. Feeling his Heavy Heart as he thought about leaving his two young children, wondering just how much he would miss in their daily lives while on this Tour. As he summoned the strength to turn to walk away, he knew that his most prized possessions were in the utmost capable hands he could imagine on this Earth, His Best Friends hands...His Wife Jean. Jean is the other half of this amazing team. She is a Strong Army Wife and Mother. She knows how to do everything from baking cookies to rebuilding fences ripped apart by the wind. Ed knows that he is a better man because of this wonderful woman who waits for him while being the Best Mommy that she can be. He draws on her strength, her humor, her love - as she does his. These two wonderful people represent what Marriage and Family are about. They are the meaning of what being in the Army prides itself on, from both sides of Living the Military Life. I thought I had just adopted a Soldier to write to and cheer up while so far from home on Duty but instead I am Blessed with the privilege of knowing a Wonderful Family that I hope I will be Friends with for a very long time. Thank You Ed, for your Dedicated and Skillful Service to Us and Our Country!! Thank You Jean for your Love, Strength and Laughter!! It truly is an Honor!

MY PERSONAL HERO:
I have a new friend. He's actually someone I haven't met yet and I honestly don't know him all that well but this is what I do know: This man is so far from his home, in a country that is completely different from anything here in the United States..a completely different climate. I know that he is use to fresh air, ocean breezes, grass under his feet, trees over head, warm days and cool nights. This man is used to getting that phone call saying "Guess what, Daddy" at any given time. Playing video games with his children or taking them to the park to ride bikes. Getting those extra long Bear Hugs and "I Love You" from his children. A man who would Love to spend a Friday off just reading a book or going to the gym or even working (LOL) if he wasn't spending time with his children of course. He would love to just go to the fridge, take out his special snack (something healthy), lay on the couch and watch TV...shows like Colbert Report, South Park, or even Casablanca. This man, My Hero, instead is half way around the World doing a duty that He NEVER complains about and does his Duties with Pride and Honor, in a land that is unlike anything he is used to. He puts his life on the line to save his fellow Brothers/Sisters. He has grown accustom to his life abroad and developed a new (temporary) routine. He makes the best of every holiday and birthday that passes, knowing that he can not be there to share it with his family but also knowing that he is one holiday or birthday closer to coming home and he won't ever have to miss another one. He has been thrown into a new community of men and women that will become his Closest Life-Long Friends. He trusts his new Friends to put their life on the line to save his because THIS IS WHAT HE WOULD DO FOR THEM - WITHOUT HESITATION! I have Never had so much Respect for any Human Being (without meeting them) then I have for this man. You see, this man is a Soldier. His name is Sgt Kevin Shannon. My words can never show Sgt Shannon how appreciated he is. Not only him, but ALL OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY ARE HEROES! Sgt Shannon is making the ultimate sacrifice, putting his duty before anything which unfortunately means being away from his Family. I ask You All To Just keep Our Troops in your thoughts..reach out to them and give them your support. I know it means a lot to them and if you know of someone whose Family Member is serving, help them by saying kind words, doing something nice for them, just giving them a hug or even just listen to what they have to say...by doing this - You will give more to Our Soldiers then you could ever imagine. Thanks. BE SAFE AND TAKE CARE OF YOU KEVIN.

SO ADOPT A SOLDIER WHO IS CURRENTLY SERVING AND LET THEM KNOW WE CARE!
