I recently had a Marine's baby. Me and the daddy tried dating but it just didn't work out. He is stationed in Japan and I'm nervous about having to rely on him to do everything. BUT......I sent him the paternity affidavit so that he will be on the birth certificate so child support can get started but as for Tri Care.....

he told me that even though he's on his son's birth cert. he is still ":battling" Tri Care after 2 years because he says they INSIST on having a paternity test done. Now, I've done my research on the paternity affidavit and know for a fact that it stands up in court. Not only that but if both parents are on the birth cert. WHY would there still be a question on paternity?

I can't afford to be paying out of pocket expenses for her dr. bills....I NEED her to be on Tri Care.....anything I can do on my end and does it seem legit that Tri Care is demanding a paternity test even though both parents would be on the birth cert?

I went through i similiar situation with my current spouse and the Military made me get a paternity test before i could enroll her on my DEERS. So yeah you going to have to do it unless they changed things. I paid about $500 for mine.

That's so dumb! I would think if the military is requiring a DNA test that THEY would be paying for it!

I suggest that you contact Military One Source. If anyone can answer your question they can and it won't cost you a dime.
Good Luck.

Yea, I called Tri Care and one lady transferred me to DEERS but no one was there at the time and the next day I called Tri Care again and a different person said that because we aren't married a DNA test is required but he couldn't tell me who would pay for it. ay ay ay! Why does it have to be so complicated?
