What do you do for work? on 08/07/2006 04:35 pm
I am not currently working since i'm trying to get me and my husband moved to a place closer to base. That does create some problems though... I am wondering about what jobs other spouses have while standing by our spouses?

I'm caught between working from home and not working from home. I want to go back to school in January so that I can finish but I just don't know how to go about doing things. I feel so lost and confused, ultimately i know it's my decision. I have always known my place in the scheme of things and now I don't have a clue.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If your going to work from home (as I do), you HAVE to have a lot of drive. It's real easy to become lazy and just not get things done that need to be done, or it will take you a long time to get it accomplished. It's real easy to put things off till later. It's real easy to get burned out (like me) because you work sooo much, or just take on too much work (which I have). Hard to make time for YOUR SELF. It is for me anyway, my work consumes me. Save on gas!!!

I know a bunch of negatives there, heres some positives. You are your own boss. No jerk standing over you yelling at you with a power trip because he got picked on in High School... You can get more done. You can work in your pajamas :) You can put things off and finish them later (requires the drive). You can run errands without having to ask permission (you mean be an adult?).

Working at a job positives. You have SET hours of work. You get paid no matter what and ON TIME (I fight with this one tooo much). You dont have to think for yourself as the work is handed to you :goof: You establish a schedule that never changes and your time is essentially managed for you. Benefits are provided for you maybe even a retirement plan?

Now obviously these factors will vary as this is just my generalization as I see it. Big rewards from working at home, but you have to work a lot harder to get there. Less worries working at a job, besides the daily worries your put on from that job. Just comes down to the type of person you are.

Good Luck!

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I'm not real sure of what to do right now. I did have drive at geting a different job but I'm so damn discouraged not to mention I keep getting dragged to base. :guns: All i do when I'm out at base is try to get out of the sunlight and do soemthing. I just got the info I requested for the work from home stuff. I'm not real sure what to look into doing anymore...

I had the plan of working from home, bartending, and going back to school... but I don't see that happening right now. Not to mention my husband's dad and his wife are coming to town. (can you say stress?)

Anyway, I'm going to quit talking now. I lost direction (again) as far as which is more important: home or job? :8

I work for the Army. I recruit for engineers, police officer, security guards etc. that support my soldier with anything that they need for military use from mre's to weapons systems and ammunition. It's a very fulfilling job because it's supports our Soldiers. Our focus is "Eye on the Soldier".

I work for ATS Tactical Gear. We sell guns and gear to military, law enforcement and civilians. It works great for me because it's right accross the street from post so it takes me 2 minutes to get to work! I also get to see pretty cool gear and of course my husband likes it because I get a discount....:)

I know this is an oldler post...but thought maybe an update would get it going again.
I work from home...I do Family Child care in my home for the Air Force. I know some providers have given us bad names...but I've been doing this for the past 9 years...almost 10 now, while being a full time mom, and watching 12 or more kids in a week. I have been able to obtain two associates and in March finished my BA. Not to mention I do nights/evenings/ weekends, and emergency care when needed through the extended duty care program. We've move 3 times in less than 2 years, and are preparing for another move in August of this year.
I'm looking at gettin a job out of the home, but not sure if I want to pursue that yet, since my youngest (3yrs) is still home for another year.
Thoughts/comments....welcomed.

I am a real estate agent, it works out really well for us because I can use my license anywhere in the country, some states require you to take a test but that is about it. It does take some money to get started but once you get going it pays for itsellf.

I have been laid off from the auto industry but I have the time to focus more on my music right now, so I guess My Lord has opened a door through which I can change a negative to a positive. I agree with Dennis about the amount of drive it takes, because its very easy to over or under do what you need to accopmplish...Doc

I am an elementary public school teacher. This is my 2nd year teaching 2nd graders but this year is different. Because of a new law in Arizona, I am now teaching a class full of only ELL (English Language Learners) students. So, basically I have 19 Hispanic and 1 Arabic student in my class.

I am 73 and retired and hate it! Retired from Regular Army in 1983 (28 years), state correctional officer (7 years) and state patrol officer (14 years). Men, never think of retiring as long as you are married and have a wife. You will wish you were back on the job!

I work full time and go to school full time being that my husband is deployed and we have no kids. School is getting very hard even though it is online, but it is manageable. If I can make a suggestion, I recommend that you contact the University of Phoenix and they will direct you to a military counselor. I love the counselors and all the staff that handle my case through this program. This can be one way you can do school for now, then eventually transfer the credits wherever you want to go later on!
