It depends on if the MOS/Rate is over strength or not. Like right now if your enlisting in as an 11B (Infantryman) your bonus probably won't be as big as a 19D (Delta Cav Scout) because most of our infantry units are over strength. 19D's are a hard MOS to fill up because it's a boring MOS to be in...no one likes armor..just kidding. But yeah, it's all job dependent. The Army just recently implemented GI Bill kickers and stuff to try and keep people in, so the longer you stay in the more your GI bill builds up. Theres a few others like the AAF or whatever, Army Advantage Fund I think - with the AAF after your enlistment you 'receive' up to $40,000 to start your own business/go to college/put a down payment on a home/car. Also, your enlistment bonus fluctuates with your education. If you have a GED or equivalent you'll get a very small bonus (if your ASVAB score even qualifies you to enlist without a high school diploma) or you won't get a bonus at all. If you have a high school diploma you receive up to 40K depending on your MOS and up to 60K if you have college BA (plus if you have a BA you'll enlist as an E-4 unless that recently changed). At the moment 19MOS (Armor), 18MOS (Special Forces/Operations), and 21MOS (Mainly 21B (Combat Engineer)) are getting the mad bonuses. Tell your husband, if he hasn't signed his re-up contract, to re-class if he can (for the record I'm 11B).
