I wanted to address something from another thread. Al Qaeda in Iraq is not the Al Qaeda that predicated 9/11. Even the president has had to concede this.

In the time that I spent in Iraq I never ran into anyone who was real Al Qaeda. The people calling themselves Al Qaeda have no real connections to the infamous terrorist network.

There are groups in Iraq that call themselves Mujah Hadin yet none of them speak Persian or have ever fought against Soviet invaders in Afghanistan.

The difference is that the real Al Qaeda is capable of projecting terror around the globe through a well funded and organized network. They are a very serious threat to the United States and our allies. Al Qaeda in Iraq, is not capable of doing these things. They are tethered to Iraq by a lack of funding and sophistication. Furthermore, they are entirely a product of the invasion and occupation.

Our presence there justifies their existence to the Iraqi people and inflames tensions there. If we were to leave, the moderate majority of Iraq would have the moral high ground if they turned against them. Right now if they were to do that they would be labeled traitors.

We need to concentrate on our real enemies like the real Al Qaeda.
