I didn't see a poetry thread anywhere so I desided to make one. It's a hobby of mine, and I've been trying to write a couple of military related ones (which is always easier when I'm deployed). Here's one I just wrote:
TEARS OF HEROES
by Keith B. Wills - 2007
He holds a letter
while counting bullets,
not feeling better
placing his final bets-
And he calls a favor
from the man upstairs;
May the enemy savor
the metal of his wares.
The sounding charge,
the blinding flash,
the explosions large,
the armies clash.
No life from the war
but a burning passion
knocking on Death's door
to give death his ration.
Fighting for country
to see his family again
he gives this decree
flowing tears at 'Amen'.
The tears of a hero fall to the ground
summons us together gathered all around
we cry in their name standing one by one
holding hands together until the battle's won.
