First duty station after Basic at Sampson AFB, NY, was Eglin AFB, FL where I was stuck for the rest of my 4 years in 1955-1959. Really wanted to get overseas. Was so fed up with the Aif Force that I went Regular Army and never regretted it. Must have paved and swept every road and fixed every pothole on the base. Worked for tobacco chewing local civilian employees and a warrant officer who was also one who married a general's daughter and got his warrant from civilian status driving trucks.
