I'm a Navy Depper leaving in March 2007. Current rate is Master at Arms. I hear that due to it being a popular rate, there is a high possibility of going into temporary holding at Great Lakes upon graduation. I was under the impression that your ship date to RTC was based on A-School availability. If this is the case, why is there the need to be held at Great Lakes? If all positions are filled, then why wouldn't they ship me out on a later date to avoid any delays?

Drop outs open spots up. But only people I have seen get "held" are ones that did the failing out of a career field until they one they get put in opens up or a new class comes up. I dunno why they would send you out just to hold you up. But it is the military. Get used to the ole "Hurry up and Wait".

well, i just left RTC Great Lakes about two months ago and had a lot of friends there who are MA's and am stationed with the MA's right now. they are being held by about 3 weeks because they're over manned. there isn't enough room at the school for yall. but now they're bein stationed for school here at dam neck, so the wait might not be as long. but as far as i know...they're all still waiting for 3 weeks in THC. does that help?

Although my contract has me at Lackland, there is talk of splitting the school between Lackland and Norfolk. (to accommodate the mass incline of prospective MA's). So, I may end up in VA instead, who knows?

yeah, most of the MA's have a contract for Lackland. and about half of them are here. what they're doin is you'll be stationed at Dam Neck (Oceana's annex) and you'll be bused to Norfolk every day for class. the MA's here say it kinda sucks bein bused in everyday but it's better than being stuck in great lakes.
