Leaving for RTC early next year. Going in as MA. Any advice for boot camp and A-School?. How about when I finally make it into the fleet? I've heard of all the changes that the MA rate is currently going through and am just curious about what new duties I will be taking on. Any help would be appreciated.

I am an MA2. Just forget about your ego when you arrive in boot camp and do as your told. It will make things easier on you. Once you get to "A" school, you will be granted more freedoms but DON'T break the rules! Like underage drinking and drinking on a duty day. You will loose your chance at being an MA and be froced out to the fleet as an undesignated Seaman. That means for a year or two, you will be on a ship chipping paint and doing the grunt work no one wants to do. So if you can make it to your first duty station, hang in there and learn all you can. Before you know it you will be the one teaching the newbies instead of being taught.
Also, be ready to be sent to either Iraq or Cuba. They love to take us MA's to these places. But don't freat, we sailors make it back just fine. But you always have to remember the ones who didn't.

Peace!

If I remember right...its at Lackland AFB in San Antonio,TX(my hometown). Right before I got out of the Navy I heard they were opening up a few other school locations, but the only one I knew for sure was at Lackland.

Just remember, bootcamp is just a head game. Play the game and you'll do well. Just do as you're told and things should go well for you. My last tour of duty was as an NRAC (Naval Reserve Acquisition Course). We did 'boot camp" for the reservist. Good luck to you and enjoy the Navy life.
